DGYF Rolls Out New Program

November 15th, 2011

YLA Student Photo Display

Young Living’s Regional Convention in Orlando, Florida was the place D. Gary Young Foundation launched our brand new Sponsor-a-Child program. Warmly embraced and well received by convention attendees, the DGYF saw 43 children become personally sponsored.

Convention attendees were encouraged to choose one of 139 students at Young Living Academy (YLA) in Ecuador. Many chose children near the ages of their own children or perhaps found an interest they shared, such as gardening, art or music.

Andrea Ollague, YLA's Director, places a "Sponsored" tag onto a child's photo at YL Convention

Andrea Ollague, YLA’s Director, traveled from Guayaquil, Ecuador to be at the DGYF booth and personally helped each sponsor make their selection. Her intimate relationship with each of the children gave each sponsor some personal insight into the personality of their child and already a connection was being made.

Part of the ongoing connection between students and sponsors will be regular e-mail correspondence. These will become part of the education for the students by helping them learn to read and write English.

If you would like to become a sponsor, visit www.dgaryyoungfoundation.org. Once we receive your $75 per month commitment we will select a student and send you a photograph of them to keep. They will then send you an email and the correspondence will begin. Make the difference in the life of a child and be a sponsor today!

The DGYF Improves the Lives of Students at the Young Living Academy in Chongon, Ecuador

August 15th, 2011

Gary Young’s passion for helping others has improved the lives of many people around the world, including the students at the Young Living Academy in the rural community of Chongon, located on the outskirts of Guayaquil, Ecuador.

When Gary and his wife, Mary, moved to Ecuador to begin the development of a new Young Living farm, they were constantly stirred by the tiny, impoverished school that they passed every day going to and from the farm. The conditions of this little school were deplorable, with no kitchen, no running water, no electricity, cracks in the cement, broken chairs and tables, a hole in the ground outside with four cardboard-like walls used as a toilet, and little resources for teaching and learning.

Traveling back and forth lasted only a few weeks before a plan was in place. Gary’s love for children and his desire to help others inspired him to build—not just a new school, but a brand-new, American-standards school for the students, using resources from The D. Gary Young Foundation.

Gary and Mary worked to convert what was once swampland into a beautiful location for the new Young Living Academy. The school was built for the original 47 children of the old school but is now “bulging at the seams” to provide educational opportunities for approximately 160 children ages 5 through 14, many of whom are children of Young Living farm employees.

Not only does the school offer education to children but also to the parents of the students and other adults in the Chongon community who desire to attend night classes to learn Spanish, English, and other skills. None of this would be possible without generous contributors to The D. Gary Young Foundation.

Several more projects are on the horizon, including a new high school and other academic and cultural additions for the academy and the Chongon community. To reach these goals more quickly, Gary recently built a brick factory on the Young Living farm, which will provide jobs for local residents, as well as higher-quality and less-expensive building materials for both projects and will help generate money to support these and other projects.

This is a new type of brick that is made by compressing dirt and water. The equipment comes from South Africa and is the only production of its kind in South America. The bricks are perfectly formed to fit together without mortar and without any cement. This means they are extremely inexpensive to make and will afford all kinds of designs with different colored soil. It will be very exciting to watch this new business grow at the farm and what it will do for the school, farm, and community.

Gary’s hope is that the local students will continue their education and eventually become leaders in their country. Of the school and its students’ successes, Gary explained, “This is the model for what can be done around the world.”

Dr. Lin Shares His Latest Cancer Research Finding

August 15th, 2011

The St. Louis community recently had the opportunity to hear Dr. Lin, a medical researcher, share some of his latest findings using essential oils in cancer research. Dr. Lin described to his audience of health professionals how frankincense oil destroyed bladder cancer cells. His research discovered that the oil of frankincense suppressed cancer cell growth and then triggered bladder cancer cell death by activating several cell death pathways. It was an exciting day for the audience to hear whom they support with their donations to the D. Gary Young Foundation.

Offering its support to Iraq Rose, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping veterans recover from war trauma, The D. Gary Young Foundation donated essential oils to help in the program’s natural healing efforts.

With more than twenty years of professional experience in mental wellness care, stress resiliency, and patient-centered care, Iraq Rose assists individuals to recover from stress and suffering with holistic integrative medicine. Young Living Oils and Diffusers Donated to Help Grieving Children

September 30th, 2010

Each year, one out of twenty American children under the age of fifteen will lose one or both parents to death, and more than one million families are shattered by divorce. Research suggests that unresolved or unexplored grief during childhood may influence higher degrees of depression, substance abuse, underachievement, and high-risk behaviors. The mission of Good Grief is to help these children grow up emotionally healthy and able to lead meaningful and productive lives.

The D. Gary Young Foundation donated Young Living diffusers and essential oils to Good Grief to aid in calming and emotional health. Oils donated include Believe™, Forgiveness™, Hope™, Joy™, lavender, Present Time™, Release™, Roman chamomile, Transformation™, and Valor®. Good Grief is currently using these products to help children and their caregivers cope with grief, as well as to ward off germs and create a calm atmosphere in their offices.

Over $50,000 Donated to Support Healing Hands for Haiti

February 25th, 2010

On Tuesday, January 12, 2010, the worst earthquake in 200 years struck the island nation of Haiti, leaving utter decimation in its wake—along with an immediate need for worldwide support of the Haitian people. In order to provide much-needed funds, Young Living Essential Oils partnered with The D. Gary Young Foundation: Young Living Outreach in a joint effort that led to the donation of more than $50,000 for relief aid.

Donations poured in from local Young Living employees, Young Living distributors, as well as from Young Living corporate and international offices in Australia, Europe, Japan, Mexico, and the United Kingdom. All monetary donations were passed on to the Healing Hands for Haiti International Foundation, where 100 percent of all contributions support immediate earthquake relief.

The D. Gary Young Foundation was also able to provide Young Living essential oils to aid workers in Haiti. Young Living distributors were among the volunteers working in Haiti, and used the oils to help calm and treat earthquake victims during this tragic time.
