D. Gary Young Foundation Purchases Semitruck For Mobile Surgical Unit
The D. Gary Young Foundation has purchased a semitruck that will be converted to a mobile surgical unit and shipped to Ecuador this fall. The truck will have a 48-foot trailer divided in half with reconstructed walls. When parked, the sides will slide out of the trailer to expand its size. The trailer will house an X-ray machine, echosonogram machines, a microscope for blood work, and ESI equipment for body fluid diagnostics. The back half of the trailer will be equipped to accommodate complete mobile surgeries. The truck will also have space for physical examinations, physical therapy, and chiropractic treatments.
The self-contained mobile surgical unit will travel to remote villages in the Amazon and Andes twice a month to perform an estimated 36 to 58 major and minor surgeries and other work. A team of 16 volunteers will diagnose patients prior to surgery and closely follow patients' recovery from surgery.
The operation of this mobile surgical unit wouldn't be possible without the generous donations of people like you. Be a part of The D. Gary Young Foundation's mission to improving the lives of people everywhere. Make a donation today.
